POSITION TITLE: Social Media and Graphic Design Specialist

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Social Media and Graphic Designer Specialist supports the development and execution of Native Forward’s overall Comprehensive Marketing Plan encompassing marketing, advertising, and promotional activities of the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Within the guideline and priorities defined in the Comprehensive Marketing Plan (CMP) engage with the team and the overall organization to achieve organizational goals, build long-term relationships with constituents, and strengthen brand authority. 
  • Work on a wide range of projects and media, using various computer software to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet business goals. 
  • Obtain input from management, ensuring designs meet organizational standards and brand expectations, express ideas accurately, and represent the company appropriately. 
  • Work independently and cooperatively on multiple projects with the marketing team, meeting deadlines and budget constraints, and scheduling project implementation based on workload, which may include five or more simultaneous projects. 
  • Update and maintain internal databases of designs, photography, and video. 
  • Work on a wide range of projects and media, using various computer software to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet business goals. 
  • Obtain input from management, ensuring designs meet organizational standards and brand expectations, express ideas accurately, and represent the company appropriately.
  • Examine existing processes, identify flaws, and create solutions to improve design capabilities. 
  • Collaborate, brainstorm, and strategize with multiple teams for a wide range of materials that may include web pages, presentations, programming collateral, signage, internal communication, newsletters, and marketing materials.
  • Translate strategic direction into high-quality designs within established brand identity. 
  • Develop concepts by hand or with software, and execute original content determining ideal usage of color, text, font style, imagery, and layout.
  • Manage the design and uploading process of all project material, understanding best practices for using a content management system. 
  • Use trend intelligence and an understanding of the current and historical business and market to design and execute specific classifications.
  • Lead in the development, marketing, and operations of a public access web-based higher education resource for students. 
  • Use Google Analytics and other research tools, to optimize the relevance, success, and steady improvement of diverse digital activities and related campaigns. 
  • Manages social media outlets (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.) 
  • Responsible for design and production of external communications, including The America Indian Graduate magazine, Native Forward’s annual report, newsletters, and promotional materials. 
  • Participate in the development of strategies to maximize impact – economic, social, personal, and cultural – and promote the effectiveness and strengths of programs.    
  • Prepare reports on the activities, plans and outcome (actual and projected) for assigned marketing initiatives as directed by the Marketing Director. 
  • Develops and proposes personal professional development plan and budget, and networks for review by Marketing Director to stay abreast of the latest trends in graphic design.  
  • Assignment and duties are performed consistent with the measurable goals, strategies, tactics, and resources defined in the CMP to facilitate evaluation and impact. 
  • Maintains strict student confidentiality and compliance with the Family Education Right to Privacy Act. 
  • Embodies Native Forward’s Core Values and promotes the organization, staff, and programs, in a positive and professional manner.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishing related results. 
  • Perform other duties as required. 
 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, marketing, or a related field is required, plus five years of progressive work experience in graphic design; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of WordPress and content management systems.
  • More than five years of experience with design software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.
  • Proven experience with graphic design, with a strong portfolio of work.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Organizational and time-management skills for meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

A valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

 

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:

  • Knowledge of American Indian history, culture, and tribes.

  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.

  • Excellent knowledge of web and related technologies, including relevant analytic tools. 

  • Mac and PC proficient 

  • Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports. 

  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and basic arithmetic. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing. 

  • Ability to multitask, organize, and prioritize while maintaining high standards of accuracy and qualify under deadline pressure. 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet prescribed deadlines. 

  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels. 

  • Expertise with generally recognized design/publishing software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Adobe Publisher). 

  • Experience using various social media platforms and web integration tools, familiarity with LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and WordPress. 

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 

  • Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines. 

  • Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment. 

  • Ability to manage several priorities simultaneously. 

  • Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action. 

  • Ability to demonstrate excellence in everything, and continually seek improvement in results. 

  • Skills in operating business computers and office machines, including Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint). 

  • Skills in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations. 

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee, occasionally, is required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must, occasionally, lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment:

Work is generally performed in an office setting, with a moderate noise level. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required. Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common. Travel will be required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
