The Loan For Service is a graduate-level educational loan awarded to American Indian and Alaska Native graduate and professional students pursuing degrees full-time at an accredited institution in any field of study. Particular attention is paid to degree candidates in the fields of Law, Education, Medicine, Natural Resources, Engineering, Business Administration, and Social Work. Priority will be given to Education applicants and those pursuing degrees at TCUs. To be considered, applicants must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Loan For Service is a payback service loan, and recipients must agree to relocate, if necessary, to obtain acceptable employment for the service payback agreement. The payback agreement is a year-to-year match, meaning that if you are funded for two years, you are required to work in a Bureau of Indian Education-approved location for two years to fulfill and forgive your loan.
The award amount varies depending on the applicant’s unmet need, but it will not exceed $20,000 per year. This opportunity is a need-based award.
