Native Forward Scholars Fund’s Empowering Scholars Summit aims to create a space to elevate your professional skills, expand your social capital and networks, enhance your personal brand, and develop an executive presence.

This free, three-day summit will be held at the University of North Carolina campus in Pembroke, North Carolina, from Friday, June 28 to Sunday, June 30, 2024.

Summit Scholars will be immersed in three full days of dynamic workshops, sessions, keynote speakers, engaging networking activities, and impactful community building. This is an opportunity to gain invaluable insights and elevate your professional skills. Native Forward will cover the Summit Scholar’s travel, lodging, and meals.

Application requirements:

  • Be a current Native Forward scholarship recipient for the 2023-2024 academic year (students who graduate in May 2024 are eligible to apply)
  • Scholars in Central and Eastern time zones during the summer of 2024 will be given first consideration

Summit Team Leads are responsible for providing guidance, support, and motivation to scholars participating in the Summit. Team Leads will present at least one Summit session and attend all other sessions to assist staff in making sure participants are fully engaged in the required activities. Native Forward will cover the Summit Team Lead’s travel, lodging, and meals.

Application requirements:

  • Be a Native Forward alum or current Native Forward graduate student. First consideration will be given to those in Central and Eastern time zones during the summer of 2024
  • Must be able to commit to attending the entire event, including all Summit sessions, breakout activities, social events, and any pre-Summit training sessions.
  • Must present at least one Summit session.
  • Be able to pass a background check.

The 2024 Empowering Scholars Summit is completely free. Native Forward will cover all Summit participants’ travel, housing, and meal expenses.

Yes, you are welcome to submit applications for both Summit Scholar and Summit Team Lead, but you can only be selected for one. 

Native Forward will review all submitted applications after the deadline. Notifications will be sent directly via email by April 1.

Accepted Summit Scholars and Team Leads will be housed in student dormitories on the University of North Carolina – Pembroke campus.

Study spaces and time will be provided throughout the Summit.
